74% of Oxford residents say traffic has worsened
A City Council survey found that residents feel all aspects of transport have declined
The recent survey published on Tuesday, conducted by Oxford City Council, looked at resident’s satisfaction with the area and council, including with housing, the economy and community safety.
Although transport is managed by the Oxfordshire County Council, the City Council say that they wanted to find out more about how transport impacts residents.
The survey found that an astounding 74% of residents felt that congestion when travelling into and within the city has worsened, with another 57% saying travel time into and within the city by bus had worsened, jumping to 61% when travelling by car.
Alongside the results, the City Council also listed some of the key issues raised by residents who provided further comment, which included that LTNs (Low Traffic Neighbourhoods) are worsening traffic in Oxford, that buses should be more frequent and that the city would benefit from improved cycling infrastructure.
Leader of the Oxford City Council, Councillor Susan Brown, emphasised in a comment alongside the report that:
“What I most want to say to Oxford residents is: we hear you. Oxford City Council will continue to fight to build new homes, create new jobs and seek fairer wages - and continue to deliver high quality services to everyone in our city.”
