Expect an increase in hospital wait times as Oxfordshire doctors join nationwide industrial action.
Oxfordshire residents urged to choose their services “appropriately” during an upcoming period of industrial action.
On Monday 10 November 2025, a press release by Oxford University Hospital Trust (OUH) explains that resident doctors are taking industrial action from 7am on Friday 14 November until 7am on Wednesday 19 November. This is due to an ongoing dispute between the British Medical Association (BMA) and the government.
Patient appointments and waiting times in the Emergency Department are thought to be the most affected sectors by the industrial action. The public is warned that they may feel the effects of the industrial action in the days leading up to the industrial action, and the days following it.
The industrial action is the result of disputes over pay erosion for resident doctors and staffing shortages. The doctors are seeking better pay and immediate reform to address job shortages.
Felicity Taylor-Drewe, Chief Operating Officer at OUH, said: “We are committed to keeping disruption to a minimum, and we have measures in place to ensure the safety and welfare of our patients and staff.
Our staff are working extremely hard during this challenging period - please do treat them with respect.”
Oxfordshire residents are informed to still go to scheduled appointments unless you have heard from your healthcare professional.
People can take simple steps to help ensure care is available to patients who need it most by using NHS 111 online, a local Pharmacy, Minor Injuries Unit, or GP for all non-emergency healthcare needs.
