Grammy Nominated Rapper Slowthai Appears at Oxford Crown Court
Rapper's long-awaited trial resumes after previous delay.
Rapper Slowthai, 29, appeared at Oxford Crown Court yesterday to mark the start of his trial following accusations of rape and sexual assault.
The rapper, whose real name is Tyron Frampton, is accused of attacking a woman following his performance at The Bullingdon nightspot in 2021.
Frampton first appeared at Oxford Magistrates Court on May 16th last year and was seen entering court yesterday whilst holding hands with his wife, singer-songwriter, Anne-Marie. She sat in the public gallery supporting her husband.
Frampton appeared alongside his co-defendant Alex Blake-Walker, 26, who has also been accused of rape.
The two defendants are jointly charged with three counts of rape and one of sexual assault against two separate women during the early hours of 8 September 2021.
Both defendants have pleaded not guilty to all counts, and have been granted bail by Judge Ian Pringle KC.
Frampton, from Northampton and Blake-Walker of Wallbutton Road, London, saw the jury be sworn in.
Judge Pringle told the jury that: “This case may attract some publicity. If it does, please remember a reporter’s report is just their view of the case.
“What matters is what you make of the evidence in the case. Try not to read, listen or watch any reports if it does come about.”
Prosecuting the case is Heather Strangoe, whilst Patrick Gibbs KC is defending Frampton and Sheryl Nwosu is defending Blake-Walker.
Last year, Frampton issued a public response to the accusations stating: “Regarding the allegations being reported about me. I categorically deny the charges. I am innocent and I am confident my name will be cleared.
“I ask that my supporters don’t comment about this situation and respect the process and privacy of my family during this time”.
The case is expected to take up to three weeks, and we will be reporting on updates accordingly. The trial has since adjourned and will continue today.
