Singer-turned- actor and Gucci ambassador Harry Styles ended Love on Tour in 2023 after a long 22-month run around the world. Styles' flamboyant persona and style through his concert outfits created a safe space for fans to feel comfortable in their skin while trying out new styles. Known for his bright colours and ‘fruit’ based outfits, Styles influenced his fans to be more confident and express themselves through his lyrics such as ‘we’ll be alright’ and ‘treat people with kindness’. The attendance for the fans, lovingly called ‘harries’ reached over five million across the tour and is growing through the vast number of videos and photographs being shared on social media of recent whereabouts of Harry Styles, and his outfits he has been sighted in.
New album rumours
With a new album rumoured to be released, fans have been looking forward to new music and new outfits. In the meantime, fans have been buying items from Styles’s own brand Pleasing. Pleasing sells: clothing, nail polish, fragrances and beauty products. A sold-out classic is the tote-style beach bag, which retails for £61. Styles is papped in his Pleasing crewnecks often, resulting in fast sales to own the same sweatshirt as the pop star. With an Instagram following of 1.4 million followers and 684 posts, Pleasing is being shared and shown to many social media users.
The hashtag #LoveOnTourOutfit had over 11.0k posts on TikTok, with many fans roaming social media trying to find an outfit bold enough to wear. Lucy, a self-proclaimed harrie ‘planned my outfit from tiktok videos I have seen’. She wore a ‘white feather boa and some flowery flares that were daisies that went with the feather boa’. TikTok was used among the fanbase as a way to prep and plan their outfits and is now used to reflect and watch more up-to-date videos of Styles. While talking about the confidence that Styles illuminates onto others, she agreed that ‘I definitely found myself wearing brighter colours and doing my hair more and trying new makeup styles’. While mentioning Harry Styles inspiring speeches at each venue, Lucy told me about her own ‘He did a speech at the concert I went to about how to not be afraid of who you are and to be kind to others and spread love and… It really made me realise life is too short to worry about how you look!’.
‘Harry Coded’
Anything related to the reminder of the singer is nicknamed ‘Harry coded’. ‘Harry coded’ clothes (and decorations) are known among the fandom as anything in relation to boas, disco balls, flower prints, bright colours or Adidas Gazelles. The ‘fruit’ joke comes from Style’s songs such as Kiwi and Watermelon Sugar.
Well-known for his vibrant style and music, a few different styles of outfits and clothing appeared at his shows. The most popular were the cowboy hat, anything bedazzled and colourful disco outfits. Creative fans were also seen replicating and DIY-ing outfits Styles has worn, whether streetwear or bold concert outfits. Adé, a fan, shared her replications of the iconic ‘white overall with red hearts he wore for London N1 in 2022’. The ‘fruit aesthetic’ was also followed, including ‘a big fruit print, a pair of Adidas Gazelles, a feather boa, heart glasses and pearl strass for the makeup’. She created her outfit with the fandom and Styles' confidence in mind, commenting on how Styles has continued to inspire herself after his tour, ‘I think his own confidence makes us feel confident in what we want to wear. Also, the speeches he does on stage and the values of kindness, respect and pride he tries to convey makes me braver’.

Fans have been spotted wearing Adidas Gazelles trainers, a shoe which Styles wore to every show, in as many different colours as you could imagine. Nicknamed ‘Satellite Stompers’ amongst the fandom thanks to the adoration of his dance moves and ‘stomps’ to the beats during his songs. She mentions ‘Aside from the tour, I have been wearing Adidas Gazelle because Harry did’. Once again proving that if Harry Styles wore an item of clothing, his fans would fall into suit.
Adidas Gazelles have been in production since 1966, with a huge peak in sales over Styles tour. They have become more popular than before and the colours and designs available are easily matchable to bold, or neutral coloured outfits making an easy shoe choice for everyone.
The outfits for the concerts would have been the first time many stepped out of their comfort zone, and in such a safe and protected space while enjoying music. The feeling of walking around a city with your outfit that you may feel a bit silly in until you bump into other fans, who are instantly recognisable due to the boas and strings of pearls. Listening to the songs takes you back to being at the concert, and you take a part of that away with you, feeling and becoming a more confident version of yourself wherever you are.
As Adé noted, ‘Colours and prints never hurt anyone’.
