The Oxfordshire Museum and the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum in Woodstock will be taking part in Takeover day this year on the 20th of November 2026.
Takeover day is an annual UK-wide celebration organised by the charity Kids in Museums, and it invites children and young people, from toddlers to ages up to 25, to try and step into adult roles in museums, galleries, historic homes and archives.
Those selected will go behind the scenes, and get to learn and understand what it is like in the role of a museum professional, learning a variety of skills. The roles available are, social media assistant and front of house assistant.
Oxfordshire County Council’s Museum Service Manager, Jemma Davey, said “We are committed to giving young people opportunities to gain new skills and learn more about the heritage sector as a career option.”
Takeover day was established in 2010, and more than 40,000 children and young people have taken part. It began in hope to help heritage organisations empower young people by providing them with meaningful roles.
Anyone interested can email the team at: handsonheritage@oxfordshire.org.uk. For anyone interested the deadlines are on Sunday the 8th of November 2026.
It is open to anyone aged 25 or under who lives in Oxfordshire, any reasonable travel expenses will be covered.
