Man imprisoned for reckless driving

He was found drunk beyond acceptable limit causing several injuries

Adrian Dumitrache, aged 36, of North Parade Derby, was sentenced to two years and 10 months in prison on Monday 11 November at Oxford Crown Court.

He pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving while driving a motor vehicle above the alcohol limit. He was disqualified from driving for four years and five months.

At around 11.45am on 21 June, Dumitrache was driving a van on the A34 near Wendle bury and drove in the wrong direction on the slip road, colliding with several vehicles.

Police says, a man, in his fifties, attempted to stop Dumitrache by approaching his vehicle on-foot but Dumitrache attempted to drive away whilst the man was holding onto his van.

The man managed to remove the keys from the van’s ignition, bringing it to a stop. He, however, sustained a broken leg requiring surgery and ongoing treatment, according to police reports

Dumitrache was arrested on the same day and charged on 20 September.

Investigating officer PC Harry Welch, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “I hope this sentence deters anyone thinking they can get behind the wheel whilst over the limit.

“The actions of one can have a detrimental effect on the lives of other and Dumitrache is an example of this.

“He was found with 110 micrograms of alcohol in 100 milliliters of breath.

“He seriously injured someone and put other lives in danger, and I am glad that he has been convicted.
