Students shared their renting experiences in Oxford, which is one of the most expensive cities to live in the UK, according to ONS statistics.
Student Meg said, “My experience has been absolutely awful.”
A report by the housing agency Rightmove, showed there is currently a surge in demand for rented properties, leaving every available property with an average of 25 enquiries.
A couple of students complained about the quality of their housing in relation to the money they pay, as student Alvaro said, “We were not getting our money’s worth.”
Housemates having health issues because of mould built up were common too, as Alvaro said, “We realised mould was affecting our breathing”, whilst Meg said, “Half of our house has been hospitalised with mould related issues.”
The report found that since 2019, the number of tenants looking to move has increased by more than 40%, whilst the number of available homes dropped by 35%. Student Mason said, “The way the housing market is, there is no point in renting.”
