Oxford Train Station Among the UK's Busiest and Worst-Rated Stations
Renovation delayed until 2025 as Oxford Station struggles with overcrowding and maintenance challenges
Oxford train station, opened in 1852 that serves more than 8 million people annually, including commuters and tourists traveling across the UK is now one of the oldest stations in Britain and is currently ranked among the busiest and worst-maintained train stations on ‘On Time Trains’ due to a lack of maintenance.
This has affected thousands of people each year who rely on the station to commute to other cities for work or college.
A passenger who commutes daily from Birmingham mentioned:
“I think the train station is too old to keep up with today’s large number of daily passengers. As far as a station goes, all the facilities are lovely, but they could do a bit of renovation.” He also explained how this affects his daily commute and performance during the day:
"I keep having to get on trains which are massively overbooked and having to stand for over an hour and it can be draining."
Last month, the Transport Secretary publicly announced delays in the £161 million Network Rail project to upgrade the station with completion now pushed to 2025.
