Oxford United Supply Cash Boost to Leys Charity
The football club’s donation to Leys Community Development Initiative is part of their new stadium project which aims to give back to the community.
A fund linked with Oxford United’s Dreaming Spires project has donated £1,000 to Leys Community Development Initiative (CDI) to help fund their charitable programmes.
The cash boost will help fund Leys CDI’s after-school programmes and provide food for sessions that hundreds of people attend each year.
The Leys CDI was founded in 1995 and engages with children between the ages of 9-17 and adults aged 50-plus. The charity puts on dozens of weekly sessions including activities such as arts and crafts, gardening, and singing. The charity’s main aim is to bring the community together through various programmes which teach new skills and help likeminded people meet.
The Charity Manager at Leys CDI, Kirk Wheeler, said that the “funding received from Oxford United will make an important difference.” He continued: “We’re incredibly grateful for the Club’s support and I know our appreciation extends to participants, many of whom are big Oxford United fans.”
On behalf of Oxford United, the Chief Commercial and Marketing Officer, Adam Benson, said “A key commitment as part of our move to north Oxford is ensuring the Club continues to serve communities in the east of the city through our Leys Legacy scheme.”
Oxford United’s lease on their current stadium, the Kassam Stadium, is up at the end of the 2026 season. The club has, however, submitted a planning application to build a new state of the art 16,000-capacity stadium near Kidlington. A final decision is expected to be made by Oxfordshire County Council and Cherwell District Council early next year.
