"Save Our Bus Stop"
Summertown Residents Urge Public Support to Save Wolvercote Roundabout Bus Stop.
A bus stop on Woodstock Road has been temporarily suspended due to a proposed road layout change, and commuters’ patience is running thin.
With several bus routes already disrupted by yet another extension of the Botley Road closure, the suspension has triggered frustration among residents, who fear the stop near Wolvercote roundabout could be permanently axed.
Despite Oxfordshire County Council’s insistence that the stop hasn’t been removed, they claim the suspension is essential to reduce traffic congestion. In a statement, the Council said:
"Due to the proximity to Wolvercote roundabout, we would expect queuing to have a detrimental effect on wider traffic, including the A40/A44 routes."
The Council pointed to alternative stops at First Turn and on the A44 just north of Wolvercote roundabout, and defended the move, citing an Equalities Impact Assessment showing no disproportionate impact on the community.
However, residents aren't convinced and are pushing back.
A six-month consultation on the Council's Let’s Talk Oxfordshire platform is underway, but locals are rallying support to save the stop, urging the public to write to Senior Transport Planner Robert Freshwater, fearing the Council’s “people-friendly” goals could soon spell the permanent removal of their local stop.
