Trump Wins: Oxford students react
Donald Trump has been elected the 47th president of the United States. This is how the students at Oxford Brookes University reacted to the results this morning.
Izzy, 20, a sports science student wasn't very surprised. “But I don't think he should have won personally,” she continues.
“From what I've seen about Trump, I don't really agree with some of his views. He says some very questionable thing. I just think he's racist and I do not agree with him.”
“I was a bit shocked,” Amalamol, 25, a business student says.
“I’m not too happy about that. Because from previous elections, the way he wanted to close the Mexican border and all that.”
Riya, 23, a recent graduate from biomedical sciences also mentions Trump’s view on race.
“I don't like him. I don't like his personally, and I don't like his thoughts on everything, it is very narrow-minded, and I think the people that vote for him do so just because they're racists, so I think that's why they connect with him, or they just are not educated.”
“They think that he's really good or that they understand that he understands them when that's not the case. He's just as uneducated as they are.”
“And I think that him affecting here in the UK. I think he's gonna make some stupid decisions and I think it's gonna be a lot of drama. [It’s going to be] entertainment, but still I don't think it was a great decision that America made.”
“I would not vote for him. No. You couldn't pay me enough to vote for him.”
Some students focused on the foreign policy of American’s new president. Daniel, 19, a law student says, “Potentially there's a lot of politicians in the UK that don't like Trump. And I feel that Trump might exercise some of his vengeance and his wrath on the UK if he feels upset.”
“It's very interesting. Trump made a political comeback after all of the challenges he's faced—all the court trials, all the allegations and everything. He's made a resurgence. Whether that will bring any good or evil is yet to be decided.”
“So I think that the United Kingdom will have to get closer to Europe, because we could potentially see that the US might distance themselves from European affairs.”
Kamala waas gonna send us all to Iran - no way Jose! Good riddance!
Personally, I was not surprised that Trump won the election. The democrats broke the trust of the American people and due to this they turned to a man who is quite extreme and a man they don't fully understand.
