How are students coping with rising consumer prices?

Despite inflation cooling, students in Oxford are still feeling the pressure of high consumer prices. The cost of living in Oxford remains one of the highest outside London, and students are feeling the squeeze.

Between May 2021 and May 2024, the Consumer Price Index shows a staggering 20.8% increase in costs - leaving many at University balancing part-time jobs with full-time studies.

Student Union leaders at Oxford Brookes University are stepping up by exploring ways to ease financial stress and support student well-being. This student led approach perhaps offers some hope for those struggling to manage their finances.
