'Solidarity Day': Oxford's key to uniting the community
Explore how Oxford communities are coming together to support those in need.
As we now head into the last stretch of June, we are finally experiencing summer; ice cream cones with sherbet and syrup, bronzed skin topped with the scent of coconut tanning oil, digging out the picnic blanket from the attic and finding a park to sit and read in until 8 pm because the sun won’t be setting until 9 pm. However, we have only just begun to feel Summer 2024’s warmth. The sun has only just begun to bask us in the rays of her warmth as winter’s leftover rain, doom and gloom decided to run over into June.
But this hasn't been the only time where I feel the weather has been overly bitter. This past winter season seemed a lot more punishing than usual. And whilst I wrapped myself up in a cocoon made up of any and all blankets within reach, I recognised that I had the privilege of heating and a plethora of warm clothes, which is something that many people do not. From this, I wanted to see what I could do to help those who didnt have what I had, which lead me to finding Cowley Climate Collective’s ‘Solidarity Day’.
